The Christian-Green Gallery is a central feature of the Warfield Center’s Art and Archive Initiative which displays art, archival materials and special collections relating to the Black experience, and beyond. The Initiative seeks to expand holdings of art and material culture of the Black Diaspora, and ensures that faculty, staff, students and community members have access to important forms of art and archives that might otherwise not be available. In addition, the Warfield Center, in collaboration with the African and African Diaspora Studies Department (AADS), has established Black Diaspora Special Collections—a strategic partnership with the LLILAS Benson Latin American Studies and Collections with the goal of establishing reciprocal collecting, borrowing and storage of art and archival materials. The Christian-Green Gallery is housed on the second floor of Jester Hall, one of the largest dormitories in the country, and is the sole on-campus institution dedicated to showcasing the art, culture, and history of Africa and the African Diaspora at the University of Texas at Austin.
