ABOUT THE PROGRAM
This program brings together two collaborative film projects, I SAW THE MARKS THEY MADE AND THE WIND WAS BLOWING (2025) and Terrebonne (2026), by artists Adriana Corral and Janaye Brown. The program begins with a screening of both films and will be followed by a conversation between Corral and Brown—moderated by Dr. Cherise Smith—discussing the connection between their work and the works on view in AGBS’s current exhibition, Made in Texas.
The short films allow viewers to encounter landscapes that display marks of their histories, both through means of nature and human intervention. The artists offer the audience moments of contemplation through the vignettes, soundscape, and slow camera movements, asking viewers to ruminate on both past and future, and pushing for a reckoning with the histories of these areas and our shared survival. In conversation with each other, I SAW THE MARKS THEY MADE AND THE WIND WAS BLOWING (2025), Terrebonne (2026), and Made in Texas welcome audiences to explore the narratives of the land around us – where we have been, where we are now, and where we are going.
